Toque

A toque has a pompom on top, not for decorative purposes, but so that if the user is wearing thick gloves they have something they can grip, to take the toque off.

A toque is the name for a knit cap, in Canada. Its distinguishing feature is a knit ball on the top. The ball is not decorative. It is designed to give the wearer something they can grip, when they want to take the toque off, and they are wearing heavy gloves.
