Twist

From Encyc

To twist something is to change or contort its shape. Often if something is twisted, it is soft and will go back to its original shape. Sometimes when things are twisted, like metals, they are often stuck in the twisted position after having been twisted.

Words can also be "twisted". If someone's words are twisted, it means that another person and has interpreted what someone said in way different than how it was originally intended.
