United States House of Representatives

From Encyc

The United States House of Representatives is the lower house of the United States's national legislature, the United States Congress.

The legislators, known as "Representatives", are elected to two year terms, and each represent a Congressional District. Each state is allowed a number of representatives based on its population, so Congressional districts never cross a state border. Traditionally, the process of setting the boundaries of the districts is corrupted, with the USA's two traditional parties competing to get a political advantage, in a process Americans call Gerrymandering.
