Usenet

Usenet was one of the first websites (or methods?) for people to send messages and content to places which were very distant, even from continent to continent. It was popular from circa 1990 to 2000. After the dot-com boom and the creation of the World Wide Web, Usenet ceased to be a mainstream form of communication, and it is now rarely used.
