User-generated content is information and entertainment found on the internet that is written by volunteer site users, rather than paid writers. It is a key component of Web 2.0.

Advantages include large amounts of cheap or free content that is sometimes useful and entertaining. Disadvantages include child protection issues, homogenization of viewpoints, and loss of professionalism and creativity.
