Voice coil former

From Encyc

A voice coil former is a hollow tube used to wrap wire around to make a voice coil in a speaker.

Up until about 1970, paper was used. Modern materials are more heat-resistant and sometimes stronger, stiffer, and lighter. Some listeners think that the choice of former material has an effect on the sound. Thermal mass, conductivity, and heat-resistance are important. Electrical conductivity is another factor because it affects eddy currents and efficiency.[1][2]
