Whip

Signal whip

A whip is a handheld tool consisting of a stiff handle and a long flexible tail, that when swung through the air moves the tip at very high velocity. Whips are usually used for controlling large domesticated animals, such as jockeys that need to signal racehorses when to run faster. They can be made from leather, rope, or other materials.

Whips are also used for corporal punishment in humans, though their use was outlawed in most places in the 19th century.
