Wilhelm II
Wilhelm II aka Kaiser Wilhelm was the leader of Germany during World War I. His autocratic, militaristic regime allowed a minor dispute in the Balkans to draw Germany into a disastrous, four year long war that killed millions of his own subjects and ruined the economy. At the end of the war, his popularity had sunk so low that even the army would no longer defend him, and he was forced to abdicate and flee to the Netherlands.
He was a grandson of Queen Victoria and cousins with Czar Nicholas II.
He survived to see the outbreak of World War II. Though he never particularly liked Hitler, an honor guard was posted outside his residence.
