Aberfan is a village about 4 miles south of Merthyr Tydfil in south Wales.

It is best known for the Aberfan disaster. On 21 October 1966 a spoil tip of loose rock suddenly collapsed and slid down the mountain, onto the primary school and a row of houses. In total 116 children and 28 adults died.
