Wales

Wales is a part of the island of Great Britain and the nation of the United Kingdom. It has not been an independent country for several centuries. However, it has its own language. The Welsh language is known for its extremely long place names, that have meanings such as "over the hill behind the bridge around the corner from the old windmill that divides the two great nations of the west", all as one overly long word. Also, in many international sporting events there is a Welsh team.

The principal city is Cardiff. Since 2000, there has been a Welsh Assembly based at Cardiff that is responsible for a variety of functions that in England are the responsibility of the United Kingdom government.
