An advertisement is a unit of information, that can come in many forms, which seeks to influence the behavior or thoughts of its audience.
Often advertisements are targeted to certain demographic groups in order to be more effective.
Quite often, advertisements are used in an attempt to increase the likelihood that a consumer will purchase a certain product.
Advertisements are often used to strengthen the perception of a brand, thereby giving the brand strength in the mind of the consumer.
Advertisements can come in the form of public service advertisements (PSA's) which may attempt to increase pro-social behavior or decrease what may be labeled as harmful behaviors.
