Association of Independent Wikis
The Association of Independent Wikis is a proposed international organization coordinating between independent wikis. The IAW is currently in the planning stages.
Rationale
[edit | edit source]As part of the broader knowledge community and MediaWiki technical community, small independent wikis are sometimes overlooked in the planning and overall advocacy efforts. We also have different technical needs than Wikimedia and other large players.
Small wikis also suffer from SEO issues, which might be helped if we cooperated more closely.
By banding together, we can accomplish more than we can separately. We envision a loose, voluntary association with an organizing meeting sometime in early 2026.
