Battle of New Orleans

From Encyc

The Battle of New Orleans was the last major battle of the War of 1812, occurring after the Treaty of Ghent was signed. Americans led by Andrew Jackson built strong defensive fortifications and repelled an amphibious invasion of the British, preventing the sack of the city.

The Americans were a mixed group of volunteers from all over the South, Cajuns, and Caribbean privateers. The British were trained regulars, many of them veterans of the Napoleonic wars. British generals ordered unimaginative frontal assaults that took heavy casualties.
