Castle Caereinion

From Encyc
St Garmon's Church

Castle Caereinion (Castell Caereinion in Welsh) is a village and former parish in Powys, Wales. It was in the historic county of Montgomeryshire and is about halfway between Llanfair Caereinion and Welshpool.[1]

The village is named for its ancient castle, built in 1156.[2] The castle was destroyed in 1167. Also in the village is the church of St Garmon, originally built in the 15th century but completely rebuilt in 1866. At the corner of the churchyard is a medieval castle mound, also known as Twmpath Garmon.[3]
