Coal is a black rock. It is a fossil fuel and can be burnt for energy.

It became very popular during the Industrial Revolution because they had more stuff to power.

Coal is mostly made of carbon.

Peat is a precuror to coal, formed when plant matter got buried and was not broken down by oxygen respiring microorganisms.
