Cockshutford is a hamlet in Shropshire, England, in the parish of Clee St Margaret. It is situated along a road around the side of Brown Clee and just below the iron-age Nordy Bank hill fort.[1]
Its name derives from "cocc-sciete", meaning a woodland glade where nets were stretched to catch woodcock. At this point the brook runs through a wooded valley.[1]
Cockshutford Primitive Methodist Chapel was built in 1869, previously locals had worshipped in a cottage. It closed during the 1950s and was deregistered as a place of worship in 1965. It was used for storage in 2003, but converted for residential use in 2017.[2]
