Constellation class of Frigates
Appearance
On October 7, 2020, Kenneth J. Braithwaite, the Secretary of the United States Navy, announced the construction of the Constellation class of Frigates.[1] A total of 20 Frigates were to be built.[2]
The design was ambitious, used a European Frigate design, call FREMM (Fregata Europea Multi-Missione), as a base.[2] This was supposed to save costs. But, by the time the design had been tweaked, to adapt it to US uses, it was no longer cheap, and the design was ultimately cancelled. Instead the Navy decided to use a simpler US design, and the replacceent class will be based on the US Coast Guard's National Security Cutter.
