County
Appearance
A county is an official subdivision of a country or state.
In the UK and Ireland, counties exist as subdivisions run by county councils. They were usually named after their historic county towns, for example Bedfordshire is named after Bedford. Since 1974 the counties of Great Britain have changed a lot, and so there are several differing definitions.
In the United States, counties are the level below states.
