Dominique Bourgeois is a Quebecois journalist.[1][2]
She met fellow Canadian musician Robbie Robertson in Paris in 1968, and moved to live with him in Woodstock, New York, where his band first recorded music with legendary folk singer, Bob Dylan, and recorded their first album, Music from Big Pink.[3][4][5]
The pair married, and shared three children.[1]
The date and cause of their separation was unknown.[2] But Robertson had dated Janet Zuccarini, his second wife, for several years before they wed, the year he died. She joined his second wife at his deathbed.

What they didn’t know at the time was this: just prior to the wedding, Zuccarini allegedly had Robertson sign a prenup prepared by her attorneys, as well an amended agreement concerning their home that stated that if one of them died, the estate of the deceased would continue to pay one half of the mortgage. This in clear contrast to the original intent – that Robertson and Zuccarini would share all expenses and upon the death of one of them the other would either sell the property and disburse half the proceeds to the other’s heirs or buy the other half from those heirs.

Robertson and his future wife, a Québécois journalist named Dominique Bourgeois he’d met in Paris, moved into their own place a few miles up the road, and Helm, who had temporarily left the band, joined the gang again a few months later. They transformed the Big Pink basement into a recording studio. Dylan dropped by every day with his typewriter and guitar and songwriting superpowers, and took everyone to a new, cosmic level.

Before they met, the family — Robertson’s three kids, six grandchildren and even the mother to his children, his ex-wife, Dominique Bourgeois, his best friend until his death — would gather every Sunday for lunch. Zuccarini was insistent they keep up the gatherings. “To her credit, she encouraged him to keep this tradition going,” says Alexandra.
