Farmer

From Encyc

A farmer is an individual whose career is to plant crops, and later, harvest their produce.

Scholars date the invention of agriculture to mere tens of thousands of years ago. While early humans did gather fruits and vegetables, to eat, they had to learn to plant the seeds or cuttings that would grow that produce, in advance.

When farmers return to their crops, between planting and harvesting, to remove weeds, or make sure they have enough water, this is called cultivation.

At some point farmers started to harvest, non-food items, like cotton, silk, or linen fibres, for clothing and other industrial uses.
