First Lady of the United States
The term First Lady of the United States, sometimes FLOTUS refers to the wife of the President of the United States. The First Lady has official duties, and a staff, to help carry them out. While the President, and their closest staff, have their offices in The White House's West Wing, most of the East Wing is set aside for the First Lady.
The wife of the Vice President of the United States is known as the Second Lady of the United States.
As of 2025[update] all US Presidents have been men, but, if a female President were married, her spouse would be known as the "First Gentleman". Kamala Harris was the United States's first female Vice President, and her husband was routinely referred to as the "Second Gentleman".
