Fish sticks

Fish sticks are breaded fish that is cooked. Fish sticks became popular around the 1950's, and were one of the first frozen foods to be mass marketed. They also were the first ways unsalted fish to inland populations in volume. Fish sticks were also popular with children because they lacked the scary heads, eyes, scales, and bones of unprocessed fish.
In the 1950's fish sticks were usually made from cod, an expensive, tasty fish. As cod catches have stagnated over the years, fish sticks are now often made from inferior fish such as pollock.
