Ganllwyd

Ganllwyd is a small village about 5 miles north of Dolgellau in Wales. It is part of the Eryri National Park (Snowdonia) in Gwynedd, and the historic county of Merionethshire. In Welsh it is sometimes called Y Ganllwyd. (y means "the")
Ganllwyd is the location of the Dolymelynllyn Estate, and is surrounded by forests.
Ganllwyd was historically split between three parishes:
- Its north-western part was in Llanddwywe parish, in its Llanddwywe-uch-y-graig township.[1]
- Its south-western part was in Llanelltyd parish.[2]
- Its eastern part was in Llanfachreth parish.[3]
This is because the parish boundaries were defined by rivers, and Ganllwyd is where the River Gamlan meets the River Mawddach.
Since 1985 Ganllwyd has had its own community council.[4] In 2011 its population was 179, the lowest of all community councils in Wales. However there are communities without councils, such as Baglan Bay (0) and Margam Moors (3) that recorded lower populations at the 2011 census.
