Interwiki linking
Interwiki linking is a feature of the MediaWiki software that allows shorthand for external links.
Example: wikipedia:Flower = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flower
What is interesting about Interwiki linking is that Wikipedia and other Wikimedia sites do not apply "nofollow" to them. This means that the sites that are interwiki linked get boosted in the search engine rankings, particularly with Google PageRank.
MediaWiki, the software that runs Wikipedia and other Wikimedia sites, automatically puts Wikipedia in the list of Interwiki links so that every single MediaWiki site automatically applies "dofollow" to Wikipedia and helps its search engine rankings.
