MediaWiki

From Encyc

MediaWiki is the name of the software that is used to run Wikipedia, as well as other projects. This software is owned by the Wikimedia foundation, who also own Wikipedia itself. The software is notable for invading privacy and encouraging stalking and harassment, by its controversial ability to have a watch list and to see contributions of users. They also have no ability to ignore a harassing user.

Despite having bulky, slow, poorly-written code, MediaWiki has become the default platform for almost all online encyclopedias.

Extensions[edit]

Many extensions are available to increase the functionality of MediaWiki. On such extension is called reCaptcha.
