Irish language
The Irish language is one of the Goidelic languages; a family of Q-Celtic languages which includes, Manx and Scots Gaelic. Still in use today as a first language, it's a minority language in the Island of Ireland, being spoken mainly on the western seaboard. It has evolved through a number of clearly defined stages; Primitive Irish, Old Irish, Middle Irish and Modern Irish. Irish once had its own script ("cló Gaelach") which was used from the 16th to the 20th centuries, finally being discontinued in the late 1950s.
