Jang Song-thaek

From Encyc
Jang Song-thaek

Jang Song-thaek was a North Korean official.[1] He married Kim Kyung-hiu, daughter of Kim Il-sung, the leader of the prominent Kim family, who ruled North Korean.[2] In 2013 his young nephew, Kim Jong-un, became leader, following the death of his father Kim Jong-il. Commentators expected Jang to serve as a mentor to his nephew, but Kim had him executed. He was killed by a burst from an anti-aircraft cannon.

His wife is reported to have died shortly after his execution.[2] A defector reported she had a stroke during a telephone conversation with her nephew, about his execution of her husband, a few days after the execution. South Korean media reported she committed suicide.
