Jersey Devil

The Jersey Devil is a creature from the folklore of New Jersey. He was born the 13th child of Mrs. Leeds, who lived in the Pine Barrens. Tired of having children, she wished the last one would be a devil. Upon being born he flew into the back yard, and commenced roaming the forest as far as the Philadelphia area and Delaware. He visited home from time to time while Mrs. Leeds was alive.

Various depictions have been made, usually with his body parts being animal-like or devil-like. There have been many sightings over the years.

At one point he was shot at with a cannon, which failed to do any damage.

New Jersey's hockey team in the NHL is named after him.
