Joseph Conrad

From Encyc

Joseph Conrad was a Polish British author who lived in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was born in Poland and learned English while serving in the British merchant fleet. During that time, he saw large parts of the British empire and other parts of the world.

The Heart of Darkness is probably his most well-known book, being the inspiration for the movie, Apocalypse Now.

He also wrote Lord Jim, Victory, several other novels, and many short stories.

His writing style tends to be slow, with a rich vocabulary and long, complicated sentence structures. He paints vivid pictures of the exotic settings of his characters, full of atmosphere.
