Kate Seredy
Kate Seredy (1899-1975) was an American author who won the Newbery Medal.
Born in Budapest, she moved to the USA in 1922. She wrote several children's books set in her native Hungary, drawing her own illustrations.
Her books include The Good Master (1935), the story of a farming family on the Hungarian plains, and its sequel The Singing Tree (1939) about how this family is affected by war. She won the Newbery Medal for The White Stag (1937), a collection of Hungarian folk-legends.
