Ko Yong-hui is a North Korean woman who was one of the mistresses of the late Kim Jong-il. He was the leader of North Korea, and Kim Jong-un, one of the children she bore him, is the current leader.
Ko was born in Japan, on 26 June 1952, to parents of Korean descent. Because Japan doesn't offer birthright citizenship, this meant she was born a Korean citizen.
Her family left Japan when she was about ten years old.
She is believed to have met Kim Jong-il in 1972.
She is believed to have died of cancer, possibly in 2004.
Her sister, Ko Yong Suk was allowed to live in Berne, Switzerland, and provide a home for her children, while they attended school there.
Ko died of cancer in 2004.[1] Taipei Times called her Kim's favorite mistress.
