Laxius Power

From Encyc

"Laxius Power" is the name of the most famous RPG of the many that were written using RPG Maker software, which enables people to create RPGs in classical DOS-style ways in the 1990s and beyond. Several other RPGs were also written using RPG Writer software, but the Laxius Power RPG series, written by Indinera Falls from France, is the most well known.

The first game in the series, Laxius Power I, was released in 2000. The series was created using software called 'RPG Maker'. The only real reason that they are particularly unique or noteworthy is that each game has at least 100+ hours of gameplay, with each game having progressively more, which is fairly unusual for games created by one individual.

There were three games, all of which were free downloads.

The series was never popular amongst mainstream gamers, as the graphics were old fashioned compared to games released by actual companies, and the gameplay was in an old-fashioned turn-based style. However, it gained a solid fanbase amongst people who enjoy games in this style and has an active community surrounding it that exists to this day.

The first part of another series that follows on from Laxius Power, called "Laxius Force", was released and cost $15. It featured slightly better, but still pretty poor graphics, and a slightly more advanced style of play. There is an 'official fansite' at laxiusforce.com that covers the previous Laxius Power games, the Laxius Force games, as well as various related topics and general discussion. Lastly, the main characters have a detailed past, provided by the prequel Laxius Force, if you like an old fashioned game this is truly an old gem.
