Legislator

A legislator is an individual who has been chosen to sit in a legislature, and propose, discuss, and, ultimately pass laws.

In modern democracies legislators are generally publicly elected. Senators in the Canadian Senate are a modern exemption, legislators there being appointed to serve until they turn 75.
