Canadian Senate

Canada's Parliament is a bicameral legislature, whose upper house is the Canadian Senate.

Unlike most modern democracies legislators in the Canadian Senate are appointed, not elected. Originally Senators were appointed, for life. In recent decades their appointments were only until age 75.

Legislators are elected to Canada's lower house, its House of Commons.
