Magazine (firearm)
Magazine is the name for a place where ammunition for firearms is stored. Firearms that use magazines are designed to be able to sequentially fire multiple projectiles.
Some rifles manufactured in the 19th century were built with a magazine the user filled, in advance, one bullet at a time. Firearms manufacturer Winchester's designs were so well known that similar designs are sometimes referred to as Winchesters.
The WW2 M1 Garand rifle was designed with a magazine that could hold 8 bullets, but they were loaded all at once, using a "stripper clip"
In the 21st Century essentially all firearms that rely on magazines employ re-usable magazine that are a separate component. A soldier will carry as many as a dozen magazines, so that when one magazine is exhausted they can quickly eject the empty magazine, and load a fresh magazine.
