Maiden name

There is a long tradition, in the Anglosphere, that women, when they marry, should abandon the surname of their maiden name, the name they were given at birth, and adopt their husband's surname.

In recent centuries an increasingly large number of women reject this tradition, or keep using their maiden name, in their professional lives.
