Marianna Budanov is a Ukrainian academic who suffered heavy-metal poisoning in late November, 2023.[2][3] Initially commentators speculated that Budanov was targetted by Russian forces because her husband, Kyrylo Budanov was the head of Ukrainian Intelligence, and he had angered Vladmir Putin.[4]

Academic career

Budanov is a psychologist who works as a Professor at Ukraine's National Police Academy.[1]

Political career

Budanov ran for Mayor of Kyiv in 2020, and is now an advisor to the current mayor, Vitali Klitschko.[5]

Poisoning

Budanova's recovery from her heavy metal poisoning was long, and difficult.[6] By December 2024 -- a year after her poisoning -- she has been reported to have had a life-threating relapse. She was reportedly quietly brought to the USA for treatment.
