Mark one eyeball

The term mark one eyeball refers to the human eye. The term is often used ironically, in a comparison with modern electronic sensors, like sonar and radar -- as on occasions where electronic sensors fail, but the "mark one eyeball" succeeds. Alternately, the term is used to praise the plucky individual, who succeeds in detection, in spite a lack of equipment.
