Maryland

Maryland is a state in the eastern United States of America, along the Atlantic coast. Its capital is Annapolis, and it includes the city of Baltimore and borders on Washington, D.C. Maryland also surrounds much of the Chesapeake Bay, a large saltwater bay that leads from the Susquehanna and other rivers to the Atlantic Ocean.

Maryland was founded in the 1600s by Catholic settlers from England. It has a history of religious tolerance.

It is considered part of the South, being situated just below the Mason-Dixon line, although it sided with the Union during the Civil War.
