Meta

Meta is a sub section of Wikimedia that acts as a control for all of the various Wikimedia projects, including Wikipedia, Simple Wikipedia, WikiQuote, WikiSource, Wiktionary and Wikipedia in various other languages.

The purpose of Meta is to provide a central focus. One example of something that is controlled from Meta is the spam blacklist, which controls which sites cannot be linked to any Wikimedia projects. It also includes decisions on who becomes administrator on any individual projects, and attempts to prevent impersonation from one wiki to another within the Wikimedia concept.
