Monte Cassino

Monte Cassino is a mountain in central Italy, south of Rome. It formed the cornerstone of the Gustav line, as it was fortified by the Germans during World War II and taken at great expense.

There were historic buildings there that were destroyed by Allied bombing, including a monastery. The bombing created rubble which the defenders used to their advantage.
