Mount Everest
Appearance

Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world. It is located in the Himalayas on the border of China and Nepal.
It was formed by the movement of two tectonic plates - the Indian plate moved into the Eurasian plate, causing land to rise and form mountains. The plates are still moving, causing Mount Everest to get slightly higher over time.
In 2020 its height was measured as 8,848.86 metres.
It is believed that the first successful ascent of Mount Everest was made in 1953. Attempts had been made as early as 1922. In more recent years it has became increasingly common - a record 807 people reached the summit in 2018.
