Normandy
Normandy is a peninsula in northwestern France. It is largely agricultural, with hedgerows. It is famous for apple brandy and a unique dialect of French.
Historically, it was part of the Roman Empire before it was conquered by Germanic tribes, then Vikings. The Vikings adopted the French language and then successfully invaded England in 1066, under William the Conqueror. They established the Norman Dynasty.
More recently, it was the site of the largest amphibious invasion in history, during World War II.
