Rodent
Rodents are one of the largest orders of Eutheria. They are mostly herbivorous and are noted for their teeth, which are well adapted for gnawing.
There are about 40 families in this group. The main ones are:
- Sciuridae (squirrels, marmots, woodchucks, chipmunks)
- Geomyidae (kangaroo rats)
- Castoridae (beavers)
- Dipodidae (jerboas)
- Cricetidae (deer mice, lemmings, voles, hamsters)
- Muridae (field mice, rats, house mice, dormice, jerboas)
- Hystricidae (porcupines)
- Caviidae (guinea pigs)
- Hydrochoeridae (capybaras)
- Chinchillidae (vizcachas, coypus)
