Scarface
Scarface is a movie starring Al Pacino about a Cuban-American drug lord who lives in Miami in the early 1980s.
Characters[edit]
Tony Montana[edit]
Political refugee from Cuba, he becomes part of the Cuban crime wave.
Likes animals. Buys a tiger as soon as he is wealthy enough. Tells Elvira her last name Hancock sounds like a bird. When not talking about money, he likes to soak in a tub while watching nature shows about flamingoes, which he calls pelicans.
Manolo "Manny" Ribera[edit]
Tony's #2. Terribly incompetent. Womanizer. Casually violent. Happily kills Frank Lopez and seems indifferent to killing Ernie.
Mistakes[edit]
- Tells immigration officers he worked in sanitation when he was supposed to say he was in a sanitarium.
- Flirts with girl while he was supposed to be watching for trouble during Tony's first drug deal. This results in Angel's death and Tony's near death.
- Fails as head of security to harden the compound's defenses despite enormous budget.
- Sets up meeting with Seidelbaum, an undercover FBI agent who arrests Tony.
- Disappears for three days, getting married to Gina, while left in charge while Tony goes to New York.
Gina Montana[edit]
Tony's sister. Likes to date drug dealers. Marries Manolo. Tony likes her and buys her a beauty shop. Tony is overprotective.
Frank Lopez[edit]
Drug trafficker who mentors Tony. Eventually grows fearful and resentful of Tony, and makes the mistake of hiring hitmen to kill Tony, but they fail. According to Tony, Frank is soft on booze and women. They tell him what to do.
Frank Lopez is the inspiration for Jackie Treehorn, in The Big Lebowski.
Alejandro "Alex" Sosa[edit]
Ruthless South American drug lord. Has some political problems which he tries to resolve by ordering an assassination. Doesn't care if women and children are also killed.
Nick the Pig[edit]
Friends with Elvira. He is overweight and uses a lot of hair product. Nick meets his end in the final battle with Sosa's assassins. He is one of the last defenders to be killed. He warns Tony that the compound has been overrun, and opens fire with his pistol. The Skull sneaks up next to him somehow and shoots him point blank with a long gun.
Chi Chi[edit]
Old friend of Tony and Manny, present from their first job. Small in stature, and cruel. He encourages Tony to blow up the car with the family in it. He fights valiantly to defend Tony to the end, but dies outside the door while Tony is in a stupor.
Angel[edit]
Friend of Tony and Manny, he dies during their first drug deal due to Manny's negligence. Hector the Toad dismembers him with a chainsaw.
Ernie[edit]
Begins the film working for Frank Lopez but ends up working for Tony. Loyal subordinate, he smooths over locals with cash and never questions anything Tony does.
Elvira Hancock[edit]
Drug-addled girlfriend of Frank who ends up marrying Tony.
Alfonso[edit]
Paid assassin, cruel, irritating, and stupid. He is high up in the Sosa organization, as he follows Tony and Alex while they are talking at their first meeting.
Alfonso is sent to New York to kill someone before they can speak before the United Nations. When it becomes apparent that a women and children will also be killed by the bomb, Tony attempts to call off the hit. Alfonso persists, so Tony kills him, shooting him point blank in the head.
Tony has very little respect for Alfonso, calling him a worm who doesn't have the guts to face his victims.
Omar "El Mono" Suarez[edit]
Works for Frank Lopez. He sends Tony to the Columbians knowing that Tony might very well die. One of Sosa's men recognizes him as a police informant and they murder him.
Frank doubts the story that Omar was an informant, believing it more likely that Sosa made it up for his own reasons. It is possible that Sosa had Omar killed because he viewed him as an obstacle to the deal, where Tony was more cooperative.
The Skull[edit]
Assassin who infiltrates Tony's compound and has good stealth abilities. Wears sunglasses at night.
Mel Bernstein[edit]
Crooked cop who extorts Tony. He knows about the Rebenga hit and the botched Columbian drug deal. Tony kills him after Frank Lopez.
Seidelbaum[edit]
FBI agent who gleefully videotapes Tony laundering millions of dollars, resulting in criminal charges that begin to unravel Tony's whole empire.
Mama Montana[edit]
Calls Tony a bad son and ungrateful. She would prefer he made an honest living.
Hector the Toad[edit]
Treacherous Columbian drug dealer. He tries to rob Tony and ends up dying in the street.
Marta[edit]
Hector's assistant. "Quieto! No te muevas, cabroncito!"
