Soda water
The term soda water refers to water that has had a relatively large charge of Carbon Dioxide injected into it.[1] The dissolved Carbon Dioxide can be felt, in the mouth, when drunk. When poured into a drinking glass, Carbon Dioxide bubbles slowly grown on the inner surface of the glass. People who drink carbonated drinks are likely to burp Carbon Dioxide that comes out of solution inside their gastro-intestinal tract.
Joseph Priestely, better known for his work understanding the nature of combustion, was the first person to be recorded making carbonated water.[1]

He collected the gas in a pig's bladder and found a way to use it to carbonate water. He was awarded the Royal Society's prestigious Copley Medal for his publication on "Directions for Impregnating water with Fixed Air." Soda water, as the fizzy stuff was called, became very popular.
