St David is the patron saint of Wales. He lived in the 6th century in south-west Wales.

He was a priest and founded many monasteries. His main monastery was at what is now St David's Cathedral in the city of St Davids. Over 50 churches were dedicated to him in south Wales in pre-Reformation days.[1]

St David's Day is celebrated on 1 March every year, because he is thought to have died on that day.
