Talk:Drone warfare

etymology...
[edit source]When I was a kid a drone was the almost useless male from an ant, bee, wasp, termite. They are haploids, the offspring of virgin workers, so only one set of chromosomes, and thus prone to bad recessive genes. Worthless for everything but the nuptual flight. So why were the very useful robots called "drones"?
For this reason I refer to aerial drones as "unmanned aerial vehicles" or UAV. Does that make me a stickler? Geo Swan (talk) 22:50, 3 June 2026 (UTC)
- Wikipedia has w:Unmanned combat aerial vehicle, w:Loitering munition, w:Unmanned aerial vehicle, w:Unmanned ground vehicle and others, as well as w:Drone warfare. But I hear you. Enki (talk) 23:13, 3 June 2026 (UTC)
