Encyc:Images is the policy so far. I generally like to respect intellectual property. That's the reason I like Commons so much, because someone else does the thinking. But there is room for a real fair use policy. Enki (talk) 17:52, 7 December 2025 (UTC)

I think the fair use policy should be "only upload if you're illustrating a subject for informational purposes, like how Yoshi appears in artwork for Mario Party 4 or the nuances between Mario's artwork on this game or that game with slight design changes." Don't believe so. Long-time wikis have been using images like that for many years, and they don't contribute to any profit loss. To be on the extra safe side, if I do use images (e.g. Chain Chomp), I'll keep them at low resolution. Gstar (talk) 18:01, 7 December 2025 (UTC)

First block

Thank you for your service, but I have to think more about what to do with this admin issue.

Factors to consider:

The Moderation extension has been very effective at stopping vandalism. I could disable the extension, which might encourage more participation, and a resulting hamster-wheel of admin counteractivity, but do we really want that?
Wikis are meant to be edited. I know that Wikipedia protects a lot of pages, but I really don't like that. What ends up happening is a two-tiered system where admins run all over the editors. The original idea was that editing should be open, that we should trust all our users and if anyone makes mistakes, they are easily reverted. Maybe Wikipedia is too big for that to work anymore, but we are not. Enki (talk) 17:19, 31 December 2025 (UTC)

They are. They have to deal with the Moderation extension though, which can be difficult if you're trying to make multiple edits and get formatting right. In this case there were two edits from the IP and I tried to approve them but then one conflicted with the other and I think might have been lost. Enki (talk) 03:37, 4 January 2026 (UTC)

Dovepedia

Please can you create Dovepedia. You can install MediaWiki for free using their Softaculous app installer. It provides 5GB of storage and a free subdomain like dovepedia.infinityfree.me. It's too technical for me. Can you please create it for me with InfinityFree as the host? It don't cost anything. I tried dovepedia.infinityfree.me but it was already taken. So I installed MediaWiki on dove.infinityfree.me, using Softaculous. It installed ok but is giving fatal exeception errors. I went back in and reran update.php and it ran fine, but still getting errors. It's hard to debug without SSH (Shell) access, so I'm going to call it a day.
