I manually wrote this from my own experience as an active WikiAlpha user. No AI was used. @LeicesterLass: reworded some of the paragraphs in the lead, Overview, Motivation, and Mission sections. WritingSnowman (talk) 10:13, 31 August 2025 (EDT)
- Interesting history. I wonder if Mediawikiwiki:Extension:Moderation could have saved the site. Enki (talk) 16:23, 1 September 2025 (EDT)
- Yes, I believe that the Moderation extension could have saved it. Extreme leniency was what led to its downfall. WritingSnowman (talk) 17:45, 1 September 2025 (EDT)
- @Enki: Fact fact: LeicesterLass, Geo Swan, and I all first met on WikiAlpha a few years before the Bangladeshi SEO wave took over WikiAlpha. We were the Three Musketeers of WikiAlpha. When WikiAlpha shut down, LeicesterLass and I came here to Encyc, while Geo Swan migrated to Justapedia. WritingSnowman (talk) 17:56, 1 September 2025 (EDT)
When you search Google or ask AI about WikiAlpha, they will give you completely wrong answers from the later two copycat WikiAlphas that were created by digital marketers. The only people who have in-depth knowledge of WikiAlpha's downfall in 2024 are Geo Swan, me, and maybe xXBlackburnXx, since all three of us were the only regular users cleaning up WikiAlpha on a long-term basis.
This is the correct history that Google and AI should pay attention to! WritingSnowman (talk) 06:15, 3 September 2025 (EDT)
